Soil Science: Soil Tests
Soil fertility is the key to any successful agricultural system. Soil health and plant health are directly linked, plants take up their nutrients through various biochemical interactions between their roots and the humus, clay particles and moisture in the soil. The organic matter (humus) content of the soil plays an important part in governing its biological health, mineral holding and moisture retention capacity. If your soils don't have a good organic matter content then microbial activity will be reduced and mineral leaching rates from rainfall events will be much higher so fertiliser applications could be less effective.
Once you have got your soil assayed by a soil testing laboratory, your soil test is analysed. You need to tie all major and minor soil nutrients together in correct proportion and relationship, so they balance each other, and form part of a living soil. Once done, there is no more need for large doses of fertilizers, massive inputs of organic matter, or insecticides. While it is impossible to control climate or rainfall, it is possible to control the level and balance of essential soil nutrients and their relationships to each other, why they are necessary, what they do and how.
SQWorm soil science consulting is done in accordance to The Ideal Soil: A Handbook for the New Agriculture, by Michael Astera. The aim is to work with you, so that you learn to be your own soil science consultant, by the end of the consulting process. If interested, contact SQWorms.
Soil Scientists & Methods
He was a prolific communicator, publishing many scientific papers and also expressing the science in layman's language in articles for farming and health magazines. He was also a constant critic of the stupidity of the N-P-K system pedalled by the fertiliser companies, the land-grant universities and the US government and for good reason; his predictions are now painfully true for all to see around the world.
Our important inputs include Indigenous Microorganism (IMO), Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ), Oriental Herbal Nutrient (OHN), Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB), Fish Amino Acid (LAB), Water-soluble Calcium (WCA), Water-soluble Calcium Phosphate (WCP), and Insect Attractant (IA).
All produced at home easily and cheaply. Most importantly, they work!
